POLL: Paid DLC in App Games, Yea or Nay?

08 March 2012 - 06:03 PM

DLC controversy, ahoy, Unbound Gamers!

The gaming press this month have been abuzz about the controversy over Day 1 DLC for Mass Effect 3 and on-disc DLC for Street Fighter X Tekken.

The DLC debate is just not limited to console or PC games, it's intruding into mobile/handheld territory too. Undoubtedly you saw our review on Megaman X for the iOS which has its own in-game cash shop. Most recently, even Mass Effect: Infiltrator has one for weapon upgrades and abilities.

So, what do you think? Is there room for paid DLC in app-games or are they better off not existing?

Unbound Gamers,

How many of you are nabbing a PS Vita on launch or getting it a week in advance by pre-ordering the First Edition Bundle?

If neither, are you waiting for a price drop or not interested at all?

07 February 2012 - 09:43 PM

Unbound Gamers,

Is the lack of a PSP-to-PS Vita transfer system a deal-breaker for you?

If so, did you have a pre-order that you cancelled or decided against getting one?

If it isn’t, what keeps the handheld attractive to you?

PSA: SOPA & PIPA

I’m sure plenty of you have seen your favorite sites either “blacked out” or fronting images in protest against the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) or its Senate equivalent, the Protect IP Act (PIPA).

For those unfamiliar with either pieces of legislation, they are as the name implies, anti-piracy laws. While a great deal of us in the industry is against piracy, the problem lies in the details.

Primarily the issues are with provisions that would allow DNS-blocking to prevent users like us to access websites that allegedly contain pirated material (NOTE: removed in SOPA but remains in PIPA) and grant copyright owners to cutoff revenue from suspected sites, effectively besieging them.

SOPA and PIPA MUST be stopped or cannot be allowed to pass in their current forms. Sites like Unbound Gamer are just as affected by this legislation as social network/sharing sites (e.g. Facebook) and search engines (e.g. Google).
