'Dungeon Crawlers' iOS Review

In a time where goblins ruled with an iron fist, a banshee’s scream could chill your very blood and the princess was unfortunately in another castle, the world needed a hero. Someone to vanquish the evil that plagued this land and restore peace and justice to the galaxy! As fate would have it, there were four; granted they weren’t so much heroes as they were left over extras from some bad 80’s fantasy flick. They weren’t really concerned so much for saving the world or galaxy for that matter, but they were available, the price was right and sometimes you have to take what you can get!

Enter Dungeon Crawlers; a story driven, turn based RPG. Created by developer Drowning Monkeys, it offers an enjoyable, loot-tastic experience for the RPG fan. Sporting 12 dungeons, four heroes and tons of evildoers to subdue in the name of honor, justice and 10,000 gold, Dungeon Crawlers has a lot give to the wanting RPG player.

Visually the game has a distinct cartoon feel which works well with the light and humorous storyline. The colors worked well with the themes of the dungeons I have played through thus far. Each dungeon came with a unique setting that felt natural as the game progressed. If you enjoy the lighthearted cartoon style visuals you should feel right at home with Dungeon Crawlers.

The story was solid which was a nice change from some of the RPG’s I have been playing of late, offering a light hearted but focused plot line that kept me engaged. There were a few times where it did feel a little slow in this regard but not so much that it was a turn off to playing. For fear of letting slip any spoilers I will refrain from giving specifics but I would like to note that the humor was of the same caliber of such movies as The Ghostbusters or Army of Darkness. If you enjoyed that style of comedy then Dungeon Crawlers might just be right for you.
